Located in a beautiful art deco building in a new neighborhood that is blooming in uptown Oakland, Flora delivers sturdy Cal-Mediterranean dishes, a stylish horseshoe bar and a really noisy environment -- all those hard surfaces.
We enjoyed a grilled miso cod -- not anything new, but a fave. Served with sesame spinach and mashers substituted for sweet potato puree, a dish that didn’t ring my bell. The scallop and shrimp salad was generous and enrobed in a silky Louie dressing.
But the hit of the day was the upside-down ginger cake, quince and apple with burnt caramel. Both dieters, we literally couldn’t stop eating it until there wasn’t even a crumb left.
